Battle Report: Warhammer Fantasy Battle 8th Edition – Skaven vs Goblins (1500 points)

Busy time. Still busy time here. I had no time to update my blog – it has been a week since the last entry. Some complications made me to take care of other stuff than work and hobby, but it should be better now. I’ve painted few miniatures – I’ll present them later, but now I finally want to present the battle report from my last game – Warhammer Fantasy Battle 8th edition – my Skaven vs Goblins. 1500 points. I’ve playing against Piotrek’s Goblins two weeks ago. Man! Two weeks! I had very little time during this time – I wanted to write this report, but there was always some other thing to do… …but on plus side – I sorted my travelling miniatures set for the next 6 months. I’m going to be apart of my collection during the long journey across Australia, New Zealand and South East Asia – so I needed to plan ahead and arrange what exactly I’ll paint in upcoming  months. Well, I think it’s a good excuse, why …

Battle Report: Warhammer Fantasy 5th ed. Skaven vs Dogs of War (2000 points)

In last few days I  had two battles of Warhammer Fantasy Battle. Saturday I’ve played good old Herohammer (WHFB 5th edition) – 2000 points battle against Dogs of War, and Monday I’ve played WHFB 8th edition – 1500 points vs Orcs and Goblins. I had awesome time playing those battles and I honestly I can’t decide which battle was better. Well, maybe first one, because I won that:)  But still had great game against those Greenskins. I know Andrzej, Dogs of War player from Oldhammer.pl – Polish site associating players of all WHFB editions (except Age of Sigmar). And Dogs of Wars in 5th edition had really cool Army Book and awesome, really awesome miniatures. So this battle were exceptional. Do you remember Dogs of War? Regiments of Renown of Tilea and other lands? Mercenaries for hire are not available any more, but 5th and 6th edition were full of different types of units. Pikemen, Ogres, Dwarf Slayers pirates, Bearmen, Birdmen…and many more! Real class act! And now I had the pleasure for the very …

Unknown Skaven Warlord…

…and back to Skaven again… What happened , you ask? After my all declarations that I’m done with Skaven for some time, and concentrate more on other games than Warhammer- Infinity, Malifaux and Wolsung, I’m back to the rats… Yes, apparently Skaven are my drug. I can’t get rid of them for a longer period of time, and after few weeks I’m back to painting them all over again. They are way to cool to leave them alone:). So, let me present my latest achievement – Skaven Warlord – End Times release. Amazing model – love the posture of that guy, love the details (tiny rat on Warlord’s belt or human head stuck to the pole), love the typical Skaven attitude. Natural born leader;). I got great bargain deal for this miniature on internet auction. I paid about 2/3 of actual GW price – so it would be a sin if I would not buy it. The timing was also perfect because I needed one more mini for my Skaven army. I needed the chief …

My first impressions about Age of Sigmar – Skaven vs Wood Elves Battle

Finally that day has come – I played the battle of infamous Warhammer: Age of Sigmar. I was hesitating for quite some time – the game was released in the beginning of July, so it has been about 6 weeks. It was not matter of my bad attitude. I was not exited about how new Warhammer Fantasy looks like, but I wasn’t gloom either. For me it was another game that appeared on the market, which was needed to by tried. And it was all easier, because I already had required models to play. Of course I had (still have) my ‘buts’ about Age of Sigmar, but there are mainly fluff issues. I always have been Warhammer Fantasy guy – started in early 1990s from RPG and quickly converted into Fantasy Battle. So, during past 20 something years I played 5 editions of WHFB, RPG, Man-o-War, Mordheim, Bloodbowl and Warhammer Quest. All these games were located in Old World. Old World was my companion for more than a half of my life. …and all of …

Battle Report: Warhammer Fantasy Battle 8th Ed. Skaven vs Wood Elves (1250 points)

Wow! Finally! Breakthrough! After 4 battles lost in the row I managed to achieve victory against Wood Elves. I’ve adjusted my army a little (in other words: I get rid of the traitors in my Skaven horde:) and, look at that, I won! To be honest – I’m happy, but first of all I feel relief. The pressure was growing with every next lost game – and now, I think it’s going to be much easier. I arranged the battle some time ago with my friend Jasiek from our local Warsaw Warhammer Facebook group – I was quite anticipating this one. I must say, Wood Elves were always kind of the mystery for me. I barely know the Army Book and their rules, and I’ve played against them, maybe 2-3 times. So, after this clash – I learned quite a few things about Wood Elves – lesson taken and remembered… Ok, enough about me. Let me take you to the story… Short summary – Lord Quiksqueek and his struggle for glory About few months ago …

Battle Report: Warhammer Fantasy Battle 8th Ed. Skaven vs Orcs & Goblins (1500 points)

…and another battle is behind me. And what can I say… the traitors are everywhere. Lord Quiksqueek was defeated. Again.;) …but let me start slowly from the very beginning. I’ve arranged the battle trough Polish Warhammer Fantasy Battle forum – Border Princes with Piotrek (he plays Orcs and Goblins). We supposed to play in the beginning of July, but due to some unexpected events we were forced to re-schedule the battle until last Thursday. The battle for 1500 points when I finally will be able to play me second freshly finished Doomwheel and try out how exactly Assassin is making out in battlefield conditions. We played in Bunkier Store, here in Warsaw, where there is nice table available with plenty of terrain pieces. Background Story Remember Grey Seer Quiksqueek and his miserable fate? How he have lost battle after battle after battle? He was in continuous disgrace. He could not show his face to Lords of Decay, unless he will do something big, something praiseworthy. Something worth the story that will be repeated by small …

Doomwheels – War has never been so much fun :)

I must confess.  I have cheated in my last week battle against Empire. I’ve deployed two Doomwheels and  none of the models weren’t entirely painted nor even properly based… and I was bragging – my army is fully painted…but no – there were much to be done… First Doomhweel – old metal model from early 1990s lacked the banner. Everything else was done here – I painted it in September 2014, right before my trip to America, all was left to paint, cut it out and attach the banner to the pole. Oh, wow, to be honest  I’m not very good at painting paper banners… of course, it’s like doing the colouring book – all is prepared – all is need to be done, just fill all empty space with colours.  But It happened to be not that easy, if you wish it to look nice. And I’m not doing it quite often these days – all banners in new GW models are made from plastic – and it’s much easier for me to do …

Battle Report: Warhammer Fantasy 5th ed. Skaven vs Empire (2000 points)

Yeah! I’ve finally made it! I have played the big epic battle of old Warhammer Fantasy Battle 5th edition. I was trying to make an appointment with few of my friends for some nice game, but every freaking time there was some thing on the way… …but finally after all these weeks, I’ve  managed to arrange the date with my old friend Matheo, who is playing The Empire. We both were starting from 5th edition of WHFB, which is sometimes called right now – Herohammer (overpowered characters with even more overpowered magical items were able to annihilate all armies in close combat – there were times…) and we have big sentiment to the game. I have begun my adventure with miniature wargaming in 1994 (more or less) and 4th edition Warhammer Fantasy Battle was my first game system.  In two years we had 5th edition and from now on miniatures and games started to be serious business for me;). I got deeply involved in this for many,  many years. So, this battle was for me …

Clan Eshin strike from the shadows! – Skaven Assassin

After completing  my Wolsung first faction, I felt like painting Skaven again. Maybe not exactly Skaven miniatures are my first choice at the moment (I’m kind of fed up painting only rats after rats after rats…), but I’ll have few more WHFB battles in near future, and I need to finish few more models. After that, no more Skaven…at least for a while :).  Infinity, WH40k,  Malifaux and other miniatures… I promise myself at that point – little bit Warhammer Fantasy break… But first…more Skaven! Yay! Over the top first – Skaven Assassin. Most of the internet Skaven Tactica compendiums tell you that Assassins are waste of the points.  120 points for average fighter, when ordinary Skaven Chieftain is only 45 points. The difference: Assassin has Weapon Skills 6 and Initiative – 8, while Chieftain has WS 5 and I 6. Of course Assassin has has Dodge Special Save (4+), Poisoned Attacks and he can start the game Hidden in regiment of Clanrats or Stormvermin. But still his stats are not impressive – Chieftain could …

Battle Report: Warhammer Fantasy Battle 8th Edition – Skaven vs Ogre Kingdoms ( 1250 points)

Age of Sigmar has begun finally. Some are happy, some are not – and some – like me – don’t specially care. As long as I’ll be able to play previous editions I’m OK with everything:) And, hey, maybe someday I’ll try AoS – maybe it’s fun too. Who knows? At the moment other stuff is on my mind… Stuff like, for example, the battle I’ve played last Friday against Ogre Kingdoms. Super entertaining battle against Maciek’s Ogres – 1250 points. Well played game – had it’s twists and turns and it the result was unresolved for few turns. I had super fun evening and I hope I could repeat the battle against Ogres someday ( tough guys…really, really hard to handle with…). Unfortunately I messed up with my camera’s settings so the photos have not satisfactory quality, but I’ve done my best Photoshop work with them to save the day. I regret that but there is no other way, and I was really feel like writing the report from this actual battle. So, any …
