Skaven Clanrats finally ready!

At least three of them… These three are part of regiment of 30 Skaven Clanrats with spears and shields and wearing light armour. The regiments is build from 7th edition plastic models. I used only those models form The Clanrat Box Set with light armour, those without any (wearing only rugs) received hand weapon and became slaves:) I have 10 of such Clanrats with me in Mexico, and the rest are waiting for me in Poland. So far I painted 12 (18 to go…). Last week we have arrived to Huatulco, south of Oaxaca State. Originally we wanted to stay here for only a week. Chill out a little on the beach, swim in the sea and take some sunbath. It would be perfect, after crowded and busy Mexico City. After staying here few days and getting know the area, we decided to stay little more. Three weeks to be exact. The place is perfect. Beach is near, wifi signal is OK to work, not too may tourists and what is most important – I …

Discworld will go on.

Usually when someone famous die, I’m not sad. I can’t be. I don’t have any feelings to that person, no personal attachment. What I feel, is some kind of confusion – It makes to ask myself and think: that person is really dead? Wow, I’m getting old – time is really marching on. Dead of Terry Pratchett though has affected me more than usual. He was one of my favourite writers, and I read almost all of his books, and even though I didn’t know  Terry Pratchett personally, I’m lost and confused with my life more than usual. Terry Pratchett and his work were with me during most of my life. I have read first Discworld series book ‘ Colour of Magic’ in 1994. It was published in parts in Polish magazine ‘Nowa Fantastyka’. I remember, I didn’t like it at first – it was too strange for me. I didn’t accept the style of Terry Pratchett and form of writing he used for the book. Mixture of hard fantasy and traditional British way of …

I’m affraid, Skaven Slaves are essential.

Skaven Slaves are weak, almost no fighting power on the battlefield. Cannon Fodder. Their stats are so damn poor, that every Skaven general is whining: “Why I even must deal with them? Why they are not Stormvermin?!” But for some reason Slaves are part of almost every Skaven army list. They will lose every combat, they will perish quicker before you can say: Bring me victory, my precious Rats! But they are there – army lists are full of them. I mean, just use Google and type: “xxxx point Skaven army list” and I bet Slaves will be included in most of army lists appeared on your search results. Oh, yes they are popular! Why is that? The answer is: 2 freaking points per model. Simply as that. I think, there is no cheaper model in whole Warhammer Fantasy game. You can deploy hundreds of Skaven Slaves, swarming an opponent with vermin infestation, and you can barely feel cost of it. I know, there are players who use ONLY Slaves for their army (at least …

Are Stormvermin any good ?

Exactly. Are Stormvermin worth it to put to your army list? It’s absolutely valid and good question. To be completely honest it’s quite difficult to answer it, just like that. There are many different points of view about including Stormvermin in your Skaven army. On plus side – the fluff: awesome minis and their background story – elite soldiers breed especially to fight, way much braver and harder than ordinary Skaven (at least that is theory;). The latest edition plastic regiment of Stormvermin is awesome! They have this angry, mean look, that tells – we are the best, we will kill, we will conquer! Minus side – well… you can always argue on that – but in my opinion – their point cost is relatively too high, for all the stats and equipment they have. It’s starting the struggle – Stormvermin or Clanrats? Clanrats are way more cheaper than Stormvermin, and there is no such a big difference between them during battle. So, many players don’t deploy Stormvermin at all, replacing them with Clanrats or …

Finally! Warhammer Shop (in Mexico).

Last week I have visited two wargaming shops in Mexico City. About first visit in ‘El Duende’, you can read in one of the previous posts from February 2015. Even though, I was enjoying ‘El Duende’ so much – I met fantastic people so passionate about Warhammer 40000 – it wasn’t  very fruitful for me personally as a collector.  I was in need of new brushes, new Citadel Paints, and most of all – new minis. And there was nothing for me. My list of unpainted miniatures (dated 20.02.2015): two Skaven Stormvermins (metal 5th Edition) one Island of Blood Plastic rat Ogre Wolsung Skirmish Steampunk Game Oak & Shield Lady Ellendeanne Wolsung Oak & Shield Sir Zachary Fiercebatten III with his hounds Not so much, as you can see. I will be travelling across Mexico for about 2.5 months. I needed more models to paint. And, you know, I’m addicted to it – I need to do this as often as possible. Preferably every day for at least 1-2 hours. Some days I’m able to …

Ratling Gun is ready!

Oh yes, finally it is! I must say I had some problems with this Ratling Gun. For some reasons I spent more time with this miniature than usual. To be completely honest, it shouldn’t be big surprise. After all I changed my place again from San Jose, Costa Rica to Mexico D.F. Usually when I get to new place, it is always like that. I have t0 get familiar with neighborhood, find a good place with for breakfast and dinner. I also have few friends here. and believe it or not, social live do not get along with my painting miniatures hobby:) I gave this miniature my usual Skaven Clan Skryre colors look. My idea is that these Skavens, and especially those from weapon teams, should wear some ordinary ‘rug like’ clothes. No fancy colours, nor dyed fabric. Only brownish and grayish colours. After all they are tinkering and fixing some miraculous Clan Skryre machines all the time. There’s no point to wear colorful clothing. For little containers on the back of second Skaven, and …

Wargaming Shop Experience in Mexico, DF, part 1

I’m having nice time in Mexico City. I met ‘long time no see’ friends, I ate some nice food and of course I painted. I’ve finished Skaven Ratling Gun (I will upload photos later) and I’m about to finish my last batch of Skaven Stormvermin ( I need just few more hours). Mexico City is also most important place for me, when it comes to my painting/travelling enterprise. During last two months, my brushes became a disaster, few of my Citadel paints ran out, and what most important – I have only few miniatures left to paint. Definitely not enough minis for remaining time in Central America (3 months). I desperately need some hobby shop around. And it happens that Mexico City is only place on my way, where such shop exists. Actually I found four shops in Mexico, District Federal area (thank you, Google!). I wanted to visit them all, but due to the lack of time, I was able to check only two of them. First shop I visited is called ‘El Duende’. …

The best Skaven base ideas

Bases, bases – why they bother me that much… Bases for my war games miniatures were always pain in the ass for me. I want the best bases, I’m kind of total top quality freak. Painting job should be top, and bases obviously as well. But when it comes to bases of my miniatures, there’s small problem. Every time I manage to finish one more miniature, I almost imminently jump to next one. I just skip the base, thinking: later, later. I’ll fix this some other day. When I travel, my minis look like that: I don’t even try to paint the base. My collection, back there in Poland, doesn’t look much better. Most of miniatures’ bases have just green coat. Some of them have added little grass and sand. You can call me lazy, you can call inpatient. It’s probably true, but there is one more thing I’m struggling with, when it comes to basing my army. I’ d like to have all my miniatures top notch look. Including bases. The only problem is, …

My little travelling Skaven Swarm

I’d like to summarize what is currently happening in my life. Right now, me and my wife are on the road. We started our trip in October 2014 with first stop in Cancun, Mexico. So far we visited Mexico, El Salvador, Nicaragua and Costa Rica. We will be travelling until May 2015, and we are going back to Poland. During this 7 months I have limited possibilities to buy new wargaming stuff – I have only those 28 mm  miniatures, paints and brushes I took from Poland in October. And what I exactly I took? 13 metal Stormvermins from Warhammer Fantasy 5th Edition 1 metal Skaven Warlock Engineer WHFB 6th Edition 1 metal Warpfire Thrower WHFB 5th Edition 1 metal Ratling Gun WHFB 6th Edition 1 metal Clan Rat – 4th or 5th Edition WHB 1 plastic Skaven Clan Moulder Pack Master from Island of Blood 1 of plastic Island of Blood Rat Ogres plus Wolsung Skirmish Steampunk Game Oak & Shield Lady Ellendeanne Wolsung Oak & Shield Sir Zachary Fiercebatten III with his dogs …

Totallly unexpected post – Warhammer End Times: Vermintide!

I supposed to write little bit more about my miniatures and plans I have for the future, but… …few days ago I read some unexpected news. New game called: Warhammer: Vermintide was announced. It’s going to be first person slasher, with lots of angry Skavens involved. And what can I say, as a totally geek about Skavens and all that is skavenish – I’m so freaking happy about releasing this game. Even though, usually I prefer to play strategies or good old fashion RPG. But in this case – because of hordes of ratmen – I’m happy like 7-years-old boy! You see? Rats! Lots of Rats! Skaven army form Warhammer Fantasy Bttle was one of the first army I started to collect. I absolutely got crazy about the fluff. And right now I’m still total Skaven nerd. SO Vermintide is just simple nerdgasm for me. I can’t wait for this game (it going to be released in second part of 2015)! I will slash rats from right to left. Kill them and kill them again! …
