Gamers Den – hobby centre in Cancún

Cancún was my last place to stay and visit on the American soil. This Monday, after 6 months of travelling, I finally got back to Europe (Madrid, Spain to be exact). I almost forgot how it is to live in Europe – I missed it so much;). I already visited two stores here in Madrid, but before I give my insight from Spain, I’m going to write little bit about Cancún‘s only hobby store – Gamers Den and little wargaming community there. I’ve visited Gamers Den last weekend with high expectations. First – I was super exited about meeting gamers from there. I turned out, it’s hard for me to stay outside community for longer period of time. Of course, if there’s no perspective on the horizon – no shops or clubs around – I do not suffer hard, but when I found out that in Cancún there’s a gaming club of Warhammer Fantasy, the anticipation was hard to handle. Second thing. I was hoping to buy new paints (my Kislev Flesh was disaster! I’ve been watering …

Portable Paint Station or other travelling/painting issues

My trip is almost over. 6 months of travel in few countries of Central America. Time to go home. At this moment I’m in Cancun – having some concluding thoughts of my journey. Cancun is my last stop on American soil – Sunday I’m heading Europe – first Madrid, Spain and a week later – Warsaw, Poland. It was fun for sure –  exiting, adventurous time, but I’m happy I’m going back – it’s little bit tiring to change places constantly, moving from hotel to hotel – and what most important (at least when it comes to the topic of this blog) being depended on limited palette, old brushes and not being able to buy new minis. Sometimes it’s even frustrating. In one week, I’m going to be in Poland – land of unlimited resources! For the last 6 months – that was my workstation. Gosh, it was hard to organize everything – paints, brushes, miniatures – but, I think I made it right (even it was trails & errors)v. I had only few “painting/travelling” …

Warhammer Fantasy Battle Report: Siege of Ancient Dwarf Stronghold

About two weeks ago I had a pleasure to meet the guys from Warhammer Fantasy Battle Club in Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Mexico. Read all about it here. …but what most important – we played awesome battle, and now, as I promised I’m giving you right now the very first battle report on Game of Travel! (too bad I couldn’t posted earlier, but for last week I was super busy…having vacations with my wife in Belize. No working, painting or writing – only free time:). It’s not exactly the report I wanted to present here, especially for the first time. I had few doubts about it – to post it or not. Finally I decide to share it, but let me explain what I had on my mind: My idea was, to put only reports on battles played only with FULLY painted armies. Playing battles with unpainted armies are big no, no for me – I’d like my opponent also has painted miniatures, but sometimes reality and rules have to be bended.  In Tuxtla there were no …

Warlock’s Lair – Warhammer Fantasy Club in Chiapas, Mexico

I’ve spent in Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas in Mexico 12 days. Not very entertaining time, I must say. Mostly work. One super adventurous excursion to Canyon Sumidero, and beside that nothing special… expect… I had nice meet up with the guys from local Warhammer 40k Club. I had very pleasant Friday afternoon, chatting and playing small, almost skirmish game of WH40k. In one of the previous posts I’m writing all about it. At first, the plan was to meet these guys and that’s it. Our extended stay in Tuxtla Gutiérrez allowed me to arrange one more meeting, in following weekend. We supposed to play Warhammer 40000 again (btw. thanks again to guys from the club, allowing me to use their miniatures for battle, I really appreciate it), but I think they were truly concern, when I was telling about my admiration for Warhammer Fantasy Battle, and small change has taken the place. Instead of usual every-weekend meeting cafeteria, we went to the home of one of the Fantasy gamers. I haven’t complain about – after 40k, I was …

Rat Ogre – the first of many

I have been mentioning that few times before – my Skaven Swarm Army is almost done. All is left to paint: around 10 Skaven Slaves and 10 Clanrats. I need about few weeks to finish them and, for the first time in my life I’ll be able to play with entirely painted army (It will be only 1000-1200 points, but still). To be honest, not only I never had any of my armies painted –  in last 12 months I’ve painted more miniatures, than the rest of my life! I was kind of lazy back in the days – definitely I was preferring playing, than painting (now it’s opposite – I barely play and try to paint as much as possible). I was kind of addicted to buying new armies – both fantasy and 40k. Every time something new was released – I  wanted to have it! Ok. Right now it’s similar – I want to have tons of miniatures. There are so many cool models, just begging to buy them. But right now, I’m …

Games of Travel: Warhammer Quest video game review (PC)

Travelling around, it’s fine. New places, new people – super awesome. My hobby life is suffering though. I have some miniatures with me all the time, I have paints and brushes – so, I keep myself busy all the time. Thanks to this blog, and its auto motivating function, I paint quite a lot. Of course, I could do it even more, but there’s always lack of time. But I’m not here today to talk about painting again… I don’t play miniature games very often, when I’m on the road. Usually it means for me, around 6 months break from any gaming activities. Actually, this is my 3rd time when I’m out of Poland for few months, and I played  tabletop game (Warhammer 40k to be exact) for the first time during my travels! For me, it is not enough. So, my only alternative right now are video games. I do like video games. I don’t play so often though these days. I prefer to spend my free evening in other way (like painting for …

Warhammer 40k in Tuxtla Guiterrez

About two months ago, we (me and my lovely wife:) bought flight tickets back to Europe. 3th May we are flying to Madrid, and week later back to Poland for next 6 months. When I was looking at the map of Mexico – I’ve arranged our trip like that – Mexico City – Oaxaca – Tuxtla Gutiérrez – Palenque – and finally Cancún (we have the flight from there). It was obvious for me I have to find some shop or wargaming club somewhere on the route. With handy help of  war games hobby map of Mexico: http://heribertohobby.com/mapa-del-hobby-en-mexico/ , I knew I could contact some people to talk, to see some battle or to play hopefully. According to the hobby map, the only club on the our way to Cancún, was Warhammer 40k Chiapas Club, in Tuxtla Gutiérrez (Chiapas State capital city). So, it was settled, after I got in touch with the guys from the club – we decided to stay for some time in Tuxtla, that I could get some mini action:). I had very …

Blood Angels assemble!

The title could be misleading. I have this Blood Angels Terminator Librarian assembled already about a week ago. I won’t be writing about boxing out and gluing Blood Angels minis (at least not in this post;). You know, my Space Marines: Blood Angels Chapter is going to be assembled again. Back in the days, I think, it were late 1990s I had nice army with several Blood Angels units – few tactical squads, two terminator squads, two assault squads. Death Company of course, and few heavy, heavy tanks – I don’t remember what kind though. It’s all blurry – the memory of my beginning with Warhammer 40k is so misty. It was the time of 2nd edition – the rules were much more different than right now and Blood Angels and Dark Angels had one codex called Angels of Death. I played only few battles with my BA, I even tried 3rd edition rules ( I was one of many complaining about new rules – I could never adjust my way of thinking for all …

How new camera changed my life…

I found out recently that to present your miniatures in proper way, you need (beside the fact you have awesome painting skills) very good camera. What can I say – I know what many of you are thinking right now – Wow! Thank you Captain Obvious! You are so helpful! I do know it’s a well known fact: better camera = better photos, but until I bought my new Canon EOS Rebel T5 few weeks ago and I took some pictures by myself, I became couldn’t believe in it 100%. Difference between my old compact camera and new one is massive. New photos are so clear, colours so vibrant and everything is so sharp. I’m really impressed. The reflex camera it was what I needed. Of course, I’m not a professional – I’m not trying to tell you: my photos are the best in the world, but as total amateur in photo shooting I can tell: these are ‘wow’ photographies. The best I managed to take. Just take a look at some we took during …

Grey Seer. Proper leader for End Times

I managed to finish Grey Seer model from End Times today. I must say, I enjoyed the process so much. It was nice change after bunch of Skaven Slaves, Clanrats or Stormvermin. Painting lords, heroes and special characters is so much fun. Too bad, my entire army can’t include only super awesome characters, with nicely scrupled miniatures like this Grey Seer. I bought this mini in Mexico City. It is my first model from latest Games Workshop End Times releases. I remember when I was leaving Europe, Nagash book have been already published, and Glotkin book just appeared in shops. All those awesome miniatures, like Nagash, Arkhan or Glotkin Brothers were tempted me: buy me, buy me! It doesn’t matter, I’m expensive and you don’t even collect Undead or Daemons – BUY me! I was so close to buying Glotkin. The miniature is a masterpiece. Absolutely ‘must have’ for every Chaos player. And because of that miniature – I seriously started to think about re-buying Chaos Army. In late 1990s and early  2000s I owned …
