Travelling Miniatures 2019

The time passed so quick… it was almost like a blink of an eye… January, February and… boom! March already and I have to come back to Europe… 2,5 months later and here I am again. My beloved, but cold and rainy Warsaw… (at least I managed to escape most of the winter). As usual, half of my backpack was filled with miniatures, paints, brushes and other hobby related essentials. I even found the place for a tube with photo backdrops and a tripod for a camera. For real, if not the hobby stuff I dragged along, my luggage would be half as big as my current one. …but, who cares, right? Miniatures are big part of my life, and I couldn’t imagine a break from hobby for 2,5 months. This time we headed to Vietnam, and spent there most of the time here. It’s easy life here. We find a nice area to hang, comfortable hotel and we set up our camp for couple of weeks at least. And everything is just a breeze. …

Go west, go east…

That was a quick one😊 Yup, 40 days abroad is really short time actually. You just think it’s going to be forever and, all of the sudden, next week your flight back to Europe is due to departure. Thailand for the last 5 years, happened to me to be as sort of second homeplace. I’ve been there (if counting all trips together) 8 months in 7 separate visits. Awesome weather, friendly people, and amazing food. I could stay here for a really, really long time. And what’s equally important – the conditions for miniature painting are adequate. With me new USB rechargeable LED lamp, the job is really easy now. Even when jet-lagged, and awaken at 3 am, I cant turn the light on and get into painting real quick, without disturbing my lovely wife. This lamp is a real gamechanger. I just wonder, why I needed so many years to finally get myself one. Lesson to be learnt: if someone tells you a good advice –  do not hesitate, just go for it. I …

On the road again!

[I actually wrote most of this post Friday lat week, but the last couple of days were super crazy and I had a very little spare time to finish and publish it. Right now, I’m in Bangkok, Thailand in a lovely hotel, planning my next move here:)] Just a few days and I change scenery again. I say good bye to chilling, depressing Polish fall. Thailand will be the place for me for the next 40 days. Leaving this Sunday:) I don’t have any specific plans yet. Two things I know for sure. I will enjoy sun, sea and food big time. And I plan to paint a big bunch of miniatures. Oh, how exciting I am at the moment. Everything is already set up. Brushes selected, paints sorted, miniatures prepared. Gosh, I haven’t done this kind of preparation for a quite some time now.  I believe since the last time I was doing ‘the travelling painter’ thing it was 2015. Three long years passed. I lived in Spain for some time, I go back …

2nd Polish Oldhammer Weekend 2017. The report

At the end of October I had the pleasure to organize the event – 2nd Polish Oldhammer Weekend. I was prepering for this event for months. Preparing fluff and scenarios. Getting all together to be a proper narrative campaign with nice background story. Ton of work. The Weekend 21-22th October 2017 was a grand final of these preparations. The Weekend I was waiting for full year, since the 1st Polish Oldhammer Weekend in 2016. And it was all worth it, I tell you that. Great deal for all participants. When it come to rules, it had nothing to do with Oldhammer. We played 5th edition of Warhammer Fantasy Battle (so,technically Middlehammer, by definition). I’m quite aware that the name maybe misleading. Some, may be even offended that we suggest the fifth edition is Oldhammer. Don’t be. The thing is, from our Polish perspective, 3rd edition or older is barely alive. Handfull of players, and basically no awareness. Games Workshop products arrived to our country in mid 1990s (I started to collect miniatures in 1994) and …

Game of Travel in Tokyo, Japan

Slowly, step by step, I’m getting rid of fthe pile of stories I should have written ages ago. Apparently, this short stay in Jamaica works ideal for me and it gave the writing boost I needed. Yaeh, mon! Just a few to go and I’m clear – ready to explore further and start new ideas, reports and reviews. Couple of days ago, I wrote about my visit in Barcelona’s Goblin Trader Store and today I finished writing about my short stay in Tokyo. My whole trip to Japan lasted all together 12 days. I’ve been to Kurashiki, Kyoto, Nara, Sendai, Ishinomaki and finally for the last three days – Tokyo. And in Tokyo I was hoping to find the store to drop in, take a look around and buy a souvenir from Japan. Unfortunately, to find a proper store became an uneasy task. Google helped me only with official Games Workshop store, plus one more, somewhere far, far away in the suburbs. And, three days in Tokyo, so I didn’t have the desire to spend …

Goblin Trader Hobby Store – the place to be in Barcelona

Have I mentioned it already? Probably few times in many different occasions, but if not, I’m doing it now (again) – next week I move to Barcelona! I’m super excited about this. Barcelona is in my top 5 places to live. Warsaw still remains number one, but I feel (or rather we – me and my wife), the shift would be good for us. It’s not going to be permanent, but at least two years will be nice time to have it there. Of course, it means our life will change a bit – the blog will become little bit less about travelling, but well it’s going to be still about games. And that’s what matters the most. Anyway… new place means entirely new setting and new gaming community. It’s going to be hard to fit in 100% like in Poland. After all I will be newbee, with only communicative Spanish. And believe me Spanish (or Catalan) is necessary in Catalunya. The people out there are not so good in English. Not at all. So, …

5th Festival of Miniature Painting and Sculpture. ToruÅ„, Poland 2016

As promised, I’m back on my feet and regular posts will pop out. Two times a week is my optimal plan, and I’m going to stick to this no matter what. Today I have for you little photo report from Festival of Miniature Painting and Sculpture held in ToruÅ„, Poland in 27-28 June 2016. I know, this event was quite some time ago, and I should post this sooner but, better late than never. Don’t you think? ;). ToruÅ„ Festival was taking place for the fifth time, and like every year it is in the last weekend of June. For me, it was the very first time there. I was thinking to go to the festival for at last two years now. However, ToruÅ„ Festival’s date so far was colliding with another event, which was for me a long time tradition and number one priority. And now random fact about me: as huge old school reggae and ska fan I would not miss This is Ska Festival in Rosslau, Germany for the world!. This is …

Game of Travel – Australian and Asian Chapter. Summary

The time has come. Next week – 15th March – I’m going back home. It was great five months, during I’ve travelled many countries, I’ve met many people and played many games, but like all good things, the travel has to end at some point. The original plan has changed a little – the idea was to end the journey in May 2016, but due to some unexpected social/family/work issues (nothing to worry about though!) we were forced to shorten our stay in Asia. So, two months before scheduled departure, I’m going back to Poland. Another chapter on my blog is ending. Time to proceed. But before I move on, I’d like to summarise my far east journey. My Journey in Numbers 5 months I left Warsaw 21st of October 2015. Flight via Doha and Singapore to Brisbane, Australia. I’m going back to Warsaw 15th march 3016. That makes almost full five months of travelling, painting miniatures and meeting gamers somewhere out there. 6 countries During that time I’ve been in six countries. I’ve started …

The travel continues – Red Comet Store – Penang, Malaysia

The travel goes on. I had some break from writing here anything connected with travel. Recently write only about my progress in painting. Actually, I paint like crazy in last two weeks. I had pretty good run and I did not want to interfere with it. However, I still have one more place to write about. So, I get myself off from the paints and brushes for a moment and I’m going back to the place I’ve visited few weeks ago. I have in mind one particular and special place for me. Georgetown, Penang Island in Malaysia. Few years ago I’ve stayed in Georgetown for over a month and I absolutely fell in love in that city. To be completely frank, I’m not sure what has happened – I just love the place. Period. Mixture of post-colonial and Asian households. Topitty top cuisine. And amazing people. Chinese, Malay, Indian and Europeans. Absolutely unique. This time I’ve stayed in Georgetown only for 10 days, which had to be enough to overcome my nostalgia. Well, I know …

Miniatures’ Photography (…while travel)

I’ve started this blog in February 2015. And from the day one, one of my major issues is how to take good pictures of my miniatures. At very beginning, I had at my disposal only old compact Canon camera. And it was disaster – there was no chance to take proper miniature photos with this piece of crap. The only good thing I could say about this junk – it was pink. Yeah, nice pink colour – my wife really liked this:). …and the moment for starting miniature blog was kind of unfortunate. During that time I was staying in Puerto Viejo in Costa Rica (almost a month there), and believe me, while this coastal Caribbean town is absolutely stunning (sun, sea, sloths and stuff;), there is not many stuff to buy, if you want to improve your photography skills (I mean: buy better equipment). Luckily, we already have some saved cash for better camera, and the only issue was – finding the store with adequate hardware… The opportunity arrived when we moved to Mexico …
