Polish Oldhammer Weekend – The Grand Battle

As promised, I go with the follow up story of Polish Oldhammer Weekend (17/18th September 2016, Warsaw). This entry will put focus on participating armies and the Grand Battle of Red Glade between forces of Good and Evil. In one of the recent posts, I described the day one of the weekend. To read the introduction, scenarios and the reports of the battles of 17h September, click here. And now,  the continuation. Before the Weekender, I asked every participant to send me the description or background story of his army. Every army is 2000 points and the army list supposed to be fixed for every of The Saturday battles and for Sunday Grand finale as well. Total points value is 10k! The Alliance of Good On the one hand there was no designated leader or general of The Good Alliance,  but I could sense in some way, that Remo Williams, General of Zhufbar Dwarf Expedition and author of the most of the scenarios of the Weekend had the lead role in the alliance. So let’s …

Blood Angels Rhino

It has been quite some time since I was  painting anything for my Blood Angels Army. And recently I had a opportunity to take a quick glance at the state of my Space Marines. Well, they don’t look impressive. In April this year I started painting challenge when I entered the campaign with my Blood Angels. The idea was to paint at least one more squad/vehicle/character before the next battle of the campaign starts. This way, in every subsequent battle of the campaign, more and more of my army will be painted and eventually all of Blood Angels will see red. That was the plan… …but you know how it is with the plans. They never work. Well, maybe not every plan, but painting challenges? Not in my case. There too many awesome miniatures to paint in my collection, just to focus my efforts on only one type, and to coordinate all my efforts to paint exactly one mini until the deadline – it seems to impossible. So, let’s be honest – this whole Blood …

First Polish Oldhammer Weekend 17-18 September 2016

Today I prepared something truly special. As you probably recall (if you follow my blog carefully), I announced some time ago my participation in organisation of first Polish Oldhammer Weekend. As not that old as it may appeared (we were playing 1990s 5th edition of Warhammer Fantasy Battle), for me it was the beginning of my wargaming adventure. So it’s old enough for me and many others. Right now it’s time to sum up The Weekend. 10 gamers met in Warsaw Gentlemen’s Club for two days in September to play several battles combined into the campaign. First day was dedicated to play three smaller battles (2000 points) and the second – grand finale – 10000 points battle between good and evil. Sounds epic, right? And it was exactly like that. Two days- tiring but extremely exciting weekend, I tell you that. 10 gamers obsessed with older editions and vintage models. Every model painted. Games with no pressure  – 100% casual gaming. Happy days were back just for a moment. Background Story How to stop end …

Back to Painting Fever

Hey hello! Finally! I’m back! After all these barren weeks with no brush in my hands, I got back on the right track again! Recent month were really crazy for me. I moved to Barcelona and this happened to be a quite time consuming enterprise. 2500 km drive by car, looking for a proper flat, arranging all paperworks issues, and finally connecting the internet. And bam! Yesterday, finally I managed to set up new workstation in my new home. For now it’s little bit rough – simply I took over a table and a chair, but to be frank I worked in way worse conditions. When the dust will settle, I’ll look for proper furnitures. For now…it’s enough – and I’m so excited to be able to paint again! So, it’s time to sum up my recent paint jobs. The first is… Vampire Count von Carstein What an awful model. Straight from 6th edition of WHFB era. The era where many the best models come from, but at the same time the worst as well. …

Game of Travel in Tokyo, Japan

Slowly, step by step, I’m getting rid of fthe pile of stories I should have written ages ago. Apparently, this short stay in Jamaica works ideal for me and it gave the writing boost I needed. Yaeh, mon! Just a few to go and I’m clear – ready to explore further and start new ideas, reports and reviews. Couple of days ago, I wrote about my visit in Barcelona’s Goblin Trader Store and today I finished writing about my short stay in Tokyo. My whole trip to Japan lasted all together 12 days. I’ve been to Kurashiki, Kyoto, Nara, Sendai, Ishinomaki and finally for the last three days – Tokyo. And in Tokyo I was hoping to find the store to drop in, take a look around and buy a souvenir from Japan. Unfortunately, to find a proper store became an uneasy task. Google helped me only with official Games Workshop store, plus one more, somewhere far, far away in the suburbs. And, three days in Tokyo, so I didn’t have the desire to spend …

Goblin Trader Hobby Store – the place to be in Barcelona

Have I mentioned it already? Probably few times in many different occasions, but if not, I’m doing it now (again) – next week I move to Barcelona! I’m super excited about this. Barcelona is in my top 5 places to live. Warsaw still remains number one, but I feel (or rather we – me and my wife), the shift would be good for us. It’s not going to be permanent, but at least two years will be nice time to have it there. Of course, it means our life will change a bit – the blog will become little bit less about travelling, but well it’s going to be still about games. And that’s what matters the most. Anyway… new place means entirely new setting and new gaming community. It’s going to be hard to fit in 100% like in Poland. After all I will be newbee, with only communicative Spanish. And believe me Spanish (or Catalan) is necessary in Catalunya. The people out there are not so good in English. Not at all. So, …

Battle Report: Warhammer Fantasy Battle 5th Ed. – Skaven vs Khorne Daemons (2000 points)

It was quite some time since last Warhammer Fantasy Battle Report. I believe my last battle was in June or something…? Long time no see, right? So, there another one. This time my Skaven facing creatures of pure Chaos – Daemons of Khorne, The Blood God, lead by The mighty Bloodthirster in flesh and blood (mostly blood, I presume:). My opponent – Michael is truly devoted to 5th edition, so we understand each other perfectly. Thank you for the game! We played in Bunkier, friendly local hobby store (Warsaw, Poland). The game rules – 5th edition (2000 points). My favourite one. When rules were simple and fun:) For purpose of this game I changed my army list a bit. Recently painted Lord Sklork was elevated to the rank of the general. The army is not pure Pestilens army – not enough models for that, but let’s assume – Clan Pestilens is  rich. They have plenty of warp tokens to rent Stormvermin or hire Grey Seer on Screaming Bell, right? Next time though – pure Pestilens. …

One day in Gentlemen’s Club – Malifaux Tournament

I’m not exactly tournament guy. Too much pressure mixed with so called ‘power gamer’ attitude – definitely not for me I used to think, something like that. Some time ago, by accident in one of the local hobby stores I bumped on Polish Malifaux Henchman – Rafał. He asked me if I will come to the tournament he organizes. Well, obviously, my answer was  – no. First, I’m still rookie in Malifaux and second, tournaments are not my cup of tea. Well, I always admired men with such charisma, that they are not need to make a big of speecch to convince someone to act. Rafał, apparently is the guy, cause in few sentences he realised me that this tournament will be great idea to participate. Advantages – three games during one day. I’m rookie allright. And I will probably loose all three, but I’ll learn my lesson and gain the experience. Therefore, I will become better player. Actually I needed that – I’m in that stage: I get Malifaux rules, but to fully understand all …

Battle Report: Wolsung – Ash & Oak vs The Inventors

Well, things get little bit slow here once again. Too much stuff occupied my mind recently. Plus I got involved into organisation of first Polish Oldhammer Weekend (and this was time consuming). Meantime I was in Spain and Japan. And finally I prepare to hit the road again… So, sum of small things gave this blog little lag one more time. And pile of stories to be written and published is growing. No time for whining then – I better speed up with everything. Writing AND painting. So without further ado – next story coming your way. Today – another Battle Report – Wolsung game – my Ash & Oak vs Inventors (led by Dorota). The game was plyed in FGB Store in Warsaw. I played this game about 2 months ago, while I was in serious Wolsung  run. I was just after Wolsung 2. edition Inauguration Weekend and driven by ongoing excitement, I was in need for more games. So, just two days after a weekend I had the opportunity to play, so I …

Wolsung 2nd Edition Inauguration Weekend. Day 2 (Campaign)

As promised few weeks ago, today I have for you second part of my story from Wolsung 2nd Edition Inauguration Weekend. The event was held in Gdynia 23/24th July 2016, and it was full of so many attractions, so I decided to split my report for two separate posts. First part – from day one – the tournament – you can read here. Today, it’s time for something quite different – the campaign. Quick reminder. Wolsung Skirmish Game is a mixture of Victorian steampunk and fantasy. All the action takes place in the city of Lyonesse (version of XIX century London), where several factions fight for influence. Simple as that. Recently I fell for this game, and even though it’s not main stream, it will get the right place on my blog. First day was great. Four exciting games full of action and friendly atmosphere. Plus… I won the second price and the trophy for best painted club. It couldn’t got better than this. …but then. The second day of the weekend. Tired but still …
