Go west, go east…

That was a quick one😊 Yup, 40 days abroad is really short time actually. You just think it’s going to be forever and, all of the sudden, next week your flight back to Europe is due to departure. Thailand for the last 5 years, happened to me to be as sort of second homeplace. I’ve been there (if counting all trips together) 8 months in 7 separate visits. Awesome weather, friendly people, and amazing food. I could stay here for a really, really long time. And what’s equally important – the conditions for miniature painting are adequate. With me new USB rechargeable LED lamp, the job is really easy now. Even when jet-lagged, and awaken at 3 am, I cant turn the light on and get into painting real quick, without disturbing my lovely wife. This lamp is a real gamechanger. I just wonder, why I needed so many years to finally get myself one. Lesson to be learnt: if someone tells you a good advice –  do not hesitate, just go for it. I …

First Polish Oldhammer Weekend 17-18 September 2016

Today I prepared something truly special. As you probably recall (if you follow my blog carefully), I announced some time ago my participation in organisation of first Polish Oldhammer Weekend. As not that old as it may appeared (we were playing 1990s 5th edition of Warhammer Fantasy Battle), for me it was the beginning of my wargaming adventure. So it’s old enough for me and many others. Right now it’s time to sum up The Weekend. 10 gamers met in Warsaw Gentlemen’s Club for two days in September to play several battles combined into the campaign. First day was dedicated to play three smaller battles (2000 points) and the second – grand finale – 10000 points battle between good and evil. Sounds epic, right? And it was exactly like that. Two days- tiring but extremely exciting weekend, I tell you that. 10 gamers obsessed with older editions and vintage models. Every model painted. Games with no pressure  – 100% casual gaming. Happy days were back just for a moment. Background Story How to stop end …

Battle Report: Warhammer Fantasy Battle 5th Ed. – Skaven vs Khorne Daemons (2000 points)

It was quite some time since last Warhammer Fantasy Battle Report. I believe my last battle was in June or something…? Long time no see, right? So, there another one. This time my Skaven facing creatures of pure Chaos – Daemons of Khorne, The Blood God, lead by The mighty Bloodthirster in flesh and blood (mostly blood, I presume:). My opponent – Michael is truly devoted to 5th edition, so we understand each other perfectly. Thank you for the game! We played in Bunkier, friendly local hobby store (Warsaw, Poland). The game rules – 5th edition (2000 points). My favourite one. When rules were simple and fun:) For purpose of this game I changed my army list a bit. Recently painted Lord Sklork was elevated to the rank of the general. The army is not pure Pestilens army – not enough models for that, but let’s assume – Clan Pestilens is  rich. They have plenty of warp tokens to rent Stormvermin or hire Grey Seer on Screaming Bell, right? Next time though – pure Pestilens. …

Lord Skrolk

Another battle ahead and my Skaven go to war once again. This Friday I will face hordes of Chaos Daemons, Warhammer Fantasy Battle 5th edition. Good ol’ Herohammer. The best edition, if you ask me. Full of overpowered combos and invincible characters, who may unbalance the game significantly. On the other hand, if both players remain reasonable with their army lists, the game is smooth and nice. So, can’t wait Friday! My Skaven will fight to send back some Daemons back to hell! My recent kind of painting challenge is to paint at least one character or unit (or single model, when it comes to skirmish games) to add to the army before every next battle. To have something entirely fresh, never deployed before. To add extra content to the game. In that way, next game will be little bit different than the previous. Even if it’s one character. Like in this case – Lord Skrolk of Clan Pestilens will provide new quality to the army. Some time ago, in one of the posts, I …

Battle Report: Warhammer Fantasy Battle 5th Ed. – Skaven vs Vampire Counts (2000 points)

Another Battle Report is finally ready. No time to update the blog as often as I would wish to, but battle reports are must. I love to do this, and no matter my recent busy schedule, I always find some spare moments to write at least few paragrpahs. For me, this is probably most enjoyable part of Game of Travel, so with this, there’s no way I would made a break. And now I’m back, once again, to 5th edition to Warhammer Fantasy. I have the biggest sentiment for this, and it’s still have the vibe, that, I think, newest editions lack. I know, I’m in minority. Gamers, these days, find older editions of WHFB as something vintage with obsolete rules and strange miniatures.  Understandable, considering that 5th edition is 1990s thing. However, still there are plenty of oldtimer enthusiasts in the area, and I’m able to find new opponents, play the battles and go on with reports. Next one – against MichaÅ‚ and his 2000 points of Vampire Counts. Played in the local friendly …

Battle Report: Warhammer FB 8th Ed. – Skaven vs Chaos Dwarfs (2000 points)

Finally! After quite some time, next battle report is coming your way! The thing is, June and July will be pretty busy months for me.  Load of work and weekend excursions. And there’s no way I can play, paint or write as much as I would like to.  To be honest, I’m again in hotel right now (Vienna this time), and as nobody will bother me at weekend with any work related issues, I grabbed this opportunity, sat down and started to write next post for my blog. And as said at the start – battle report. Good old Warhammer Fantasy Battle. Getting back to 8th edition after a while. And I have the coolest opponent possible for my Skaven Army – Chaos Dwarfs (using Legion of Azgorgh rules from Forgeworld’s Tamurkhan book). I find Chaos Dwarfs as one of the most fascinating army to play or face against.  I started to collect Chaos Dwarfs myself (with intention to made 5th edition army list though), so this battle was pretty exciting event for me. Hope …

Bearers of Plague

I missed painting Skaven. I really did. After quite some time (over a month I think) during I was painting other stuff, finally I decided to go back rat army. It was too long, I tell you that. I find Skaven most rewarding and relaxing miniatures to paint, and there’s no way anything could beat that (that’s my personal opinion, so do net get angry or abused;). Of course, too many Skaven miniatures in the row will be too boring to handle, so that’s way I paint some different things from Warhammer and other games as well. There’s one thing certain – I will always go back to Skaven. They will always have priority when it comes to painting and gaming. Yes-yes! Anyway… these are my latest addition to my army. Plague Censer Bearers. Great models with really wicked rules included. At least for Warhammer Fantasy Battle (no matter the edition). I’m not sure how they work in Age of Sigmar (not a very big fan here;), but with no doubt these awesome minis will …

Queek Headtaker of Clan Mors

After all these weeks, while I was painting anything but my beloved rats, I’m finally going back to my personal project and army – Skaven. About 3 weeks ago I was playing 5. edition battle against Dwarfs (battle report available on my blog), plus I got into Warhammer 8th edition tournament (report also here:). And that was good opportunity to paint some reinforcements to my army. First of all, I painted bases, lots of bases. All my Skaven units were based on just simple green plastic bases with no rocks, sand or grass. Just ordinary plastic. Little bit sad and pathetic, I know, but I didn’t have any time to get them done. So, with upcoming event on the horizon, finally the time has come to base all of them (120 models:), to made them look good during battle against Dwarfs and WHFB tournament. Next thing. I thought, I may use Plague Monks (in both events as well). I had these nicely black primed models from the times of 3th, 4th and 5th editions, just …

Battle Report: Warhammer Fantasy Battle 5th Ed. – Skaven vs Dwarfs (2000 points)

Another battle report coming your way! And I’m back to The Old World and good old 5th edition of Warhammer Fantasy Battle once again. The battle – my Skaven vs Remo’s Dwarfs – 2000 points. If any of the rules, skills, magical items or simply anything is unclear, just ask. I am more than willing to answer all questions about 5th edition. This battle was really special for me. I had quite a break from WHFB in general, and even longer from Herohammer (as sometimes 5th edition is called), so it was big reunion for me. Remo came to Warsaw from Opole (300 km away) to attend to Warhammer Fantasy tournament the next day, so we grabbed this opportunity to play the battle. I was speed painting Plague Monks for entire two weeks, just to be able to use them in the battle. So, please ignore their bright green hoods – they will get proper look any time soon. I promise:) The battle took place in Bunkier Hobby Store in Warsaw. Perfect place for battles. …

The Pestilens is spreading!

Oh, that was precious time in Thailand. Well, in Asia in general. I had huge doze of fun here and for sure I’m going to miss whole region – my favourite Malaysia, but also other countries. I plan to get back here, not in near future, but probably in about 2 years I want to visit this area again. Right now – destination Warsaw, Poland and I’m going to settle down there for few months. Exactly like one year before, when I got back from Central America. …but for now, I’m still in Thailand. Last 5 days. And I have few miniatures already painted, photographed and ready to be presented here. First mini from this new batch, is Skaven Plague Priest for Warhammer Fantasy Battle (how to tell a difference between WHFB and Age of Sigmar these days? It’s simple – if the base is squared – it’s WHFB, and if it’s round – it’s AoS ;P ). The model comes from the plastic kit Screaming Bell/Plague Furnace, that provides two assembling options. I’ve decided …
