The Last Summer Painting Fever

OK. Carmine Dragon is finished and in about three days I’m going to Japan for almost two weeks. So, without any doubt – this is my last painting session before the trip. The small tradition is that in my regular Painting Fever post I have three miniatures to present. So, today I also have only two. I didn’t make to paint three before Japan… Starting from my first Age of Sigmar model… Orruk Weirdnob Shaman I prepared this model for one of the Warsaw’s hobby store painting competition. The deal was that you have to come to the store, buy any model you like and paint it. As I was after Orruk Weirdnob Shaman for quite a some time now, I entered the contest, simply to grab the opportunity to get this green guy. Well, if you follow my blog, and read my posts from time to time, you probably know my attitude to Age of Sigmar. Long story short –  I don’t get Rage of Sigmar, when I see or hear about it, but …

1st Oldhammer Weekend in Poland (17/18.09.2016)

Oh Yeah, you heard that right! We are doing this in Poland. To be exact, I’m only helping with this event, but it’s still going to be super cool. At the beginning, a few words of explanation. Original Oldhammer term is referring to the original 3rd edition of Warhammer Fantasy Battle, which for many has the best wargaming spirit – wide selection of armies, complex rules and amazing miniatures. People playing Oldhammer these days are getting back to their youth, to to very start of their wargaming adventure. We would like to experience the same feeling. To get back to the very start of our hobby. The main issue is that the start of wargaming in Poland dates to the middle of 1990s, so  the 3rd edition was long time gone. It was 4th edition time and majority of the players in Poland who were starting back then has sentiments for 4th edition. Like me for instance, in about 1994, if I recall it correctly. The 4th edition was slowly ending, and soon 5th edition …

The Game of Dragon

Finally! At last! It’s over! It’s done! After many, many painting hours, I’ve managed to paint Carmine Dragon from Forge World. Oh, gosh! That was a challenge, I tell you! It took me almost forever to paint it. I started in end of May 2016 and sit for many hours to achieve the level I would be satisfied with. The idea of planting this model was planted in my head in May and slowly growing to eventually turned out with decision – OK. Let’s do this! I wanted to visit Festival of Miniature Painting and Sculpture in Toruń, Poland (last weekend of June), and I thought this dragon will be just right to paint and present at the festival. This would be perfect excuse to go there  I was thinking back then – I got 6 weeks to the festival, so it’s plenty of time to paint it at top notch level. Oh, how wrong I was! 6 weeks may seem like the time I could paint whatever I want, but like always I forgot …

Wolsung 2nd Edition Inauguration Weekend. Day 1

Wolsung. This game is stuck in my head for quite some time now. And even it is not so popular like a few other skirmish games like Malifaux or Infinity, it gives me this special thrill like no game before. Awesome miniatures, reasonable entry level and nice, quick-to-learn rules. Say no more. Wolsung has all I need from miniature game. And Steampunk background! Did I mention the Steampunk background?! ❤ Long time readers of my blog probably are aware my affection to Wolsung miniature game, and there is no surprise, that once again I write a story about it. This time, I’m going to present the report from Wolsung 2nd Edition Inauguration Weekend. When I found out that such even will take place in Micro Art Studio (producer of Wolsung) HQ, in Gdynia, Poland (23/24th July 2016), I knew I need to be there at any cost. I changed my vacations plans to get there, so that has to mean something! My Ash &oak needed few final touches, so I spend few hours a day …

Lord Skrolk

Another battle ahead and my Skaven go to war once again. This Friday I will face hordes of Chaos Daemons, Warhammer Fantasy Battle 5th edition. Good ol’ Herohammer. The best edition, if you ask me. Full of overpowered combos and invincible characters, who may unbalance the game significantly. On the other hand, if both players remain reasonable with their army lists, the game is smooth and nice. So, can’t wait Friday! My Skaven will fight to send back some Daemons back to hell! My recent kind of painting challenge is to paint at least one character or unit (or single model, when it comes to skirmish games) to add to the army before every next battle. To have something entirely fresh, never deployed before. To add extra content to the game. In that way, next game will be little bit different than the previous. Even if it’s one character. Like in this case – Lord Skrolk of Clan Pestilens will provide new quality to the army. Some time ago, in one of the posts, I …

5th Festival of Miniature Painting and Sculpture. Toruń, Poland 2016

As promised, I’m back on my feet and regular posts will pop out. Two times a week is my optimal plan, and I’m going to stick to this no matter what. Today I have for you little photo report from Festival of Miniature Painting and Sculpture held in Toruń, Poland in 27-28 June 2016. I know, this event was quite some time ago, and I should post this sooner but, better late than never. Don’t you think? ;). Toruń Festival was taking place for the fifth time, and like every year it is in the last weekend of June. For me, it was the very first time there. I was thinking to go to the festival for at last two years now. However, Toruń Festival’s date so far was colliding with another event, which was for me a long time tradition and number one priority. And now random fact about me: as huge old school reggae and ska fan I would not miss This is Ska Festival in Rosslau, Germany for the world!. This is …

Painting Fever. Part 4

Oh, my… that was really long, unexpected break from painting. Many things stood on the way of efficient work. It’s probably too long and boring list of excuses to quote it here. I can only share one, but actually it’s part of the hobby too, so, let’s just say I’m excused. My excuse – I was painting a huge model. One of the biggest in my entire life probably. And it took me many hours, and believe me it’s still not finished. I would like to share all the progress and post WIP pictures, but it’s so close to finish line right now, so I decided to keep it until it’s done. What is it you ask? 🙂 Well, I’m going to keep it in secret for now and share it when it’s ready:). …and now, finally, after long, long break I got painting fever again. Today I have for you three minis painted during last two weeks. (I hope it’s going to be my permanent state, and fever will not get off). First is… …

Battle Report: Wolsung – Ash & Oak vs the Inventors vs The Triad

Aaagh, and another ‘long time, no write’ break in the blog. Of course, I could try to explain myself and I would find a few good excuses (like: I was out on two weeks road trip in Germany and France:), but it’s not the point. The thing is I have still a few stories to write and I should do this no matter what. Vacations? Please… that can wait – neglected blog should never happen. So, without further excuses – back to work. Time to get this thing back on track! Today, I have for you another battle report. This time – Wolsung Steampunk Skirmish Game. The game I played at the beginning of June in Warsaw’s Gentlemen’s Club and what’s really special about this – it was the skirmish between three players. Tomek, Paulina – thanks for great game! I played with my Ash & Oak vs Triad of Lotus Dragon (Tomek) and The Inventors (Paulina). No alliances. Everyone vs Everyone. Two heroes game. Scenario will be explained later in the text. Background Annual …

Battle Report: Infinity – Bakunin Nomads vs CA Morats (200 points)

Last month was crazy busy for me. Work, family, partying at weekends…you know usual stuff… and because of that, I had absolutely minimum time that to spend to give some love to the blog. Shame on me, I’m aware of that. …from now on – I say – enough! I have plenty of collected material to write, and I need to catch up with all this stuff. And it’s actually cool, because I really miss that:). Today I have for you tiny battle report from my Infinity game I played few weeks ago in Warsaw’s wargaming Gentlemen’s Club. It was my second game of Infinty- so it’s full of my simple rookie mistakes. And my opponent – Zippy Lapdos was unmerciful tutor, he ground me like a road roller. I don’t complain though. I was prepared for that – the idea was to be beaten, but learn the rules and tricks will help me in next games. So, big thanks to Zippy for patience while playing with me. I also would like to apologize for …

Battle Report: Warhammer Fantasy Battle 5th Ed. – Skaven vs Vampire Counts (2000 points)

Another Battle Report is finally ready. No time to update the blog as often as I would wish to, but battle reports are must. I love to do this, and no matter my recent busy schedule, I always find some spare moments to write at least few paragrpahs. For me, this is probably most enjoyable part of Game of Travel, so with this, there’s no way I would made a break. And now I’m back, once again, to 5th edition to Warhammer Fantasy. I have the biggest sentiment for this, and it’s still have the vibe, that, I think, newest editions lack. I know, I’m in minority. Gamers, these days, find older editions of WHFB as something vintage with obsolete rules and strange miniatures.  Understandable, considering that 5th edition is 1990s thing. However, still there are plenty of oldtimer enthusiasts in the area, and I’m able to find new opponents, play the battles and go on with reports. Next one – against Michał and his 2000 points of Vampire Counts. Played in the local friendly …
